Mead Simon Chain Mail Designs Artwork Jewelry and Fashions

Mead Simon learned to make chain-mail when he was living in Chicago back in mid-80s. Mind-numbingly bored with the traditional uses and weaves, he decided to see what else he could do with the medium. 25 years later, having done countless fashion shows, craft fairs, renaissance festivals and other exhibits, he is still continually broadening his horizons.

This year he is working with metal, plexi-glass and mirrors and looking
forward to seeing what new horizons lie ahead.

“Chain-mail has always fascinated me”, he recently said, “because of its seemingly odd ability to transform hard metal into a soft fabric. It also reminds me of the role that people play in society. Each one is ostensibly the same, but only when we come together in unity can we make the fabric of civilization. And while we are all similar, some of us perform functions that are unique, such as the important link that holds the clasp in a bracelet.” For more information on his philosophy of life and art, you can read his almost-daily blog at www.onebahai.blogspot.com.
