Our Volunteers are an integral part of our Market Community by helping us every week with the market set-up/take-down, greeting & providing information to visitors, and helping with our special events!

The James Bay Market is such a great place to be on a Saturday, that many loyal Volunteers return season after season.

Every week, our Volunteers assist the Market Manager in creating a fun and vibrant place for our customers and vendors .

The James Bay Market is an open air, rain or shine Market operating at the corner of Menzies and Superior Streets in James Bay every Saturday from May 3rd to October 4th, 2025 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.

James Bay Market Volunteer Positions

Thank you for considering volunteering with us. Volunteers assist with the set-up and take down of the market, greeting and providing vendor and area information to our customers and by working in our Market Coffee/Information Kiosk. Our volunteers also play an important role in staging our special events, like the annual Canada Day celebration!

Market Set-up Assistant:

Moderate strength required – Time: 7:30 am to 9:00 am

Assist our Market Manager and Set-up person with the physical layout of the market including market tents, tables and chairs, musical equipment. Placement of signage and signboards and the roping of the market perimeter. You will also offer help to our vendors, some of whom may need a hand putting up their tent, etc. No packing or unpacking of vendor products is required.

Tear-Down Assistant:

Moderate strength required  – Time: 2:45 pm to 3:45 pm  

Assist our Market Manager and Set-up person with the take down and storage of our equipment, as outlined above. You will also assist our vendors who may need a hand with their tents, etc.  No packing of vendor products is required.

Front & Exit Greeters (Attendants):

Times: 8:30 am to 11:45 am and 11:45 am to 3:00 pm

Be the face of our Market. Greet the customers and thank them for attending. Count and record the number of attendees (a person counter is provided). Draw attention to the Market features and the seating for our three sets of live music. Assist the customers in finding Vendors they are seeking (location map and Vendor lists are provided). This is a wonderful way to meet persons attending the market and talking to them about our Vendors, Community and Victoria.

Coffee & Info Kiosk:

Times: 8:30 to 11:45 am and 11:45 to 3:15 pm

Duties include making and selling coffee, making change, and setting up our information area with various local maps, papers and Victoria event information. Setting up and taking down the coffee equipment and related supplies. All supplies and brochures are provided. This position is a wonderful way to meet and enjoy a steady stream of customers and talking to them about James Bay and the Victoria area.
